Latest national Heritage at Risk Register published

Historic England has published the most recent Heritage at Risk Register on 15 October 2020. The Register identifies sites most ‘at risk’ of being lost as a result of neglect, decay or inappropriate development.

In 2020 there are 5,097 entries on the Heritage at Risk Register. Across England there are 491 conservation areas on the register with 3 conservation areas being added to the register, whilst 9 have been removed. In total, 181 entries were removed from the register, but 216 were added.

In order to make the register even more accessible than previous years, you can now explore a new map to find Heritage at Risk in your area. This will make it much more accessible for communities to identify what conservation areas are at-risk locally.

The 2020 Heritage at Risk Register includes:

  • 1,475 buildings and structures
  • 932 places of worship
  • 2,090 archaeology entries
  • 103 registered parks and gardens
  • 3 registered battlefields
  • 3 protected wreck sites
  • 491 conservation areas.
