About our walks

The Footpaths Group arranges a regular programme of walks throughout the year, in a variety of town and country locations, on weekdays and weekends, and with a selection lengths to suit all abilities. Depart 11.00 from outside café/toilets at Kenwood House, Hampstead Lane NW3. About 30 mins by 210 bus from Finsbury Park Station—Wells Terrace bus station.

A surprisingly green linear walk linking Hampstead Heath and Hampstead Garden Suburb with the Dollis Brook Trail towards Barnet. Maximum distance about 7 miles but shorter options by either bus or from Northern Line stations, including from Finchley Central lunch stop. Bring lunch or food available. Leader: Mick Spinks

Meet 10.30 Ealing Broadway Station (about 30 mins by Central Line from Oxford Circus). Toilets on station platform. No Great Northern trains today.

7½ mile linear walk via Walpole, Gunnersbury and Chiswick Parks, all with historic houses, ending at Turnham Green Station. Shorter options. Lunch stop near Kew Bridge/Strand on the Green. Bring lunch or food available. Contact: 07904 193 098. Leader: John West

Walk: Discovery Walk: Londinium

Meet 10.45 Tower Hill Station (Circle and District Lines).

About 5 to 6 mile linear walk which includes some surviving Roman remains and shows how the Romans continued to influence the City for centuries. Route ends in Leadenhall Market. Meet 10.20 Alexandra Palace Station ticket office (10.03 train from Enfield Chase).

About 2¼ hour linear walk via the Palace grounds and the disused railway path to Highgate Wood and then into Highgate Village for lunch stop and option to end. Bring lunch or food available. After lunch about 1½ to 2 hour linear walk across Hampstead Heath, ending at a point for return transport. Leader: Mick Spinks

Walk: River Thames Scenes

Depart 11.10 from Tate Britain Gallery’s Manton entrance in Atterbury Street (not from the main entrance fronting Millbank and The Thames). About 10 mins signed walk from Pimlico Station (Victoria Line). Note: the Gallery opens from 10.00, has free admission, and within the Manton entrance are toilets and a café.

About 2½ hour linear walk via Battersea Park, Chelsea and Chelsea Harbour with an attractive mix of gardens, historic and modern buildings and The Thames. Lunch stop at a large supermarket café with option to end at nearby Imperial Wharf Station (London Overground). For those bringing own lunch there are nearby gardens but without any shelter.

After lunch about 1¼ hour linear walk with varied river scenes, ending at Putney Bridge Station (District Line). Contact on day of walk only: 07506 334 019. Leader: Peter Mackey.
