About our walks

The Footpaths Group arranges a regular programme of walks throughout the year, in a variety of town and country locations, on weekdays and weekends, and with a selection lengths to suit all abilities. Walk: Watling Chase Timberland Trail
Oct 19 all-day

Meet 10.12 Elstree & Borehamwood Station (09.48 Thameslink St Albans train from St Pancras International mainline station platform B). Also possible to travel to start by 307 bus to Barnet, changing onto 107 bus, but this has a total journey from Enfield Town of at least 1 hour 20 mins.

About 7 mile linear walk on field paths and tracks via farmland and woods with some excellent long distance views. Option to end after about 4 miles from lunch stop at Shenley Park café (with bus to London Colney). Bring lunch or food available. Walk: River Stort

Meet 10.14 Bishop’s Stortford Station (09.40 Greater Anglia Cambridge North train from Tottenham Hale or at 09.48 from Cheshunt — for latter connection use 09.14 London Overground train from Southbury Station).

8 mile linear walk following the scenic River Stort and Stort Navigation via locks, open countryside and parkland. Full route ends at Harlow Town Station but also shorter options from Sawbridgeworth lunch stop and at Harlow Mill. Bring lunch or food available. Contact: 07904 193 098. Leader: John West

Depart 10.20 Crews Hill Station (09.59 train from Enfield Chase).

6¾ mile linear walk via tracks, field paths and Northaw Village (lunch), ending at Tesco’s Potters Bar for 298 and 313 buses. Possibility of ending at Northaw by 242 bus but service currently very irregular. Contact on day of walk only: 07425 136 628. Leader: Margaret Redman

Meet 10.12 Bayford Station (09.59 train from Enfield Chase—buy Off-Peak Day Single ticket).

In morning about 4 mile linear walk via woods, tracks and field paths to Hoddesdon town centre for lunch break and option to end. Bring lunch or food available. After lunch a bus will be used to access the afternoon’s walk of no more than 3 miles via the waterways of the Lea Valley, ending at Cheshunt Station. Meet 09.48 Hatfield Station (09.31 Thameslink Cambridge train from Finsbury Park mainline station or at 09.43 from Potters Bar Station—buy Off-Peak Day Single ticket to Hatfield).

After a short bus ride, today’s 8½ mile linear walk follows the River Lea through very pretty countryside via Lemsford (a favourite of Elizabeth l), Brocket Hall Park with Lord Melbourne and Palmerston connections, and then Waterend to reach Wheathampstead in about 5 miles. Bring lunch or food available. Option to finish with return by bus to either Potters Bar or St Albans—from the latter, option of a train into St Pancras or 84 bus to Potters Bar.

From Wheathampstead the route ends in Harpenden town centre, from where choice of a train into St Pancras or a bus to either Potters Bar or St Albans. Contact. 07904 193 098. Leader: John West
