The Footpaths Group arranges a regular programme of walks throughout the year, in a variety of town and country locations, on weekdays and weekends, and with a selection lengths to suit all abilities. Meet 10.35 St Albans City Station. Either by Thameslink trains at 09.51 or 10.06 from St Pancras International Station (platform B), or by 84 bus from Potters Bar Station at 09.28 or 09.43. Note: car parking difficult at/near station.
In morning a TES 3½ to 4 mile attractive semi-rural and parkland walk ending near the Cathedral and City centre for lunch. Then the time is yours to spend independently. The Cathedral has the popular “Carols on the Hour” event—each service takes about 30 mins with the last at 16.00. The City centre will have Christmas lights, the Charter Christmas Market and, in the Town Hall, the Museum, Gallery and historic County Court with cells to view.

Meet 10.30 Lauderdale House café, Waterlow Park, Highgate Hill. The Waterlow Park bus stop outside the café is about 20 mins by 210 bus from Finsbury Park Station (Wells Terrace bus station).

Meet 10.34 Enfield Lock Station (either 10.25 Greater Anglia Hertford East train from Tottenham Hale or by 121 bus). 9 mile moderately paced, undulating, linear walk from the Lea Valley into Epping Forest via High Beach lunch stop (pub, sandwich bar or bring lunch) and Loughton Camp, ending at Chingford Station. Meet 10.45 Embankment Station (Circle, District and Bakerloo Lines). Today’s linear walk highlights locations associated with Dickens during his time in London, with some significantly influencing his writings. Meet by 11.00 in entrance foyer to Richmond Station and be ready to catch 371 bus at 11.06 to Richmond Gate. See Tuesday 19 Nov walk for train journey times.
