The Footpaths Group arranges a regular programme of walks throughout the year, in a variety of town and country locations, on weekdays and weekends, and with a selection lengths to suit all abilities. Discovery Walk: Gardens and Parks
Feb 28 all-day

Meet 10.40 Temple Station (Circle Line from Moorgate/Liverpool Street and Circle/District Lines from Victoria). About 3 hour linear walk with a mix of gardens and historic buildings via Embankment Gardens, St James’s Park and other parks to end near Marble Arch. Shorter options. Walk: River Effra: One of London’s Hidden Rivers
Mar 6 all-day

Meet 10.40 Crystal Palace Station. Travel with John on 09.55 London Overground train from Highbury & Islington. Otherwise by 10.01 Southern Beckenham Junction train from platform 11 London Bridge mainline station, or by 10.06 Southern West Croydon train from platform 9 Victoria mainline station. 8 mile linear walk from Effra’s main source in Westow Park via Crystal Palace, Norwood, Belair and Brockwell Parks to Brixton. Shorter options. The Effra is much altered from the 1820’s when it was fished by John Ruskin. Route passes the 1948 Olympic Games velodrome. Lunch stop in the Herne Hill area. Walk: Waterways & Parks
Mar 12 all-day

Meet 10.30 near entrance to platform 9, King’s Cross mainline station. Varied scenes throughout this linear walk, including King’s Cross regeneration area, Regent’s Canal/Park, picturesque Little Venice (lunch stop), Paddington Basin and Royal Parks. Shorter options. Bring lunch or food available. Leader: Mick Spinks.

Walk: The City of London
Mar 16 all-day

Meet 10.30 near entrance to platform 1, Liverpool Street mainline station. Today’s walk will show contrasting aspects of the City from Roman times to the present day, including buildings old and new, squares, gardens and sculptures, with some river scenes. Many shorter options. Bring lunch or food available. Leader: Stuart Mills.

Walk: Enfield Wetlands and Waterways
Mar 20 all-day

Meet 10.30 Salisbury House, Bury Street West, N9. Note: toilets are in adjacent Bury Lodge Park. On 192 bus route, or short walk along Bury Street West from either 231 bus stop on Great Cambridge Road or 329/W8 stop at Ridge Avenue/Church Street traffic lights. About 21⁄2 mile linear walk using the newly opened Salmons Brook Greenway and Wetlands, then via Edmonton Cemetery to enter Firs Farm Wetlands for a guided tour, before reaching the Winchmore Hill lunch stop. Bring lunch or food available.

Afternoon walk of about 21⁄2 miles departs 13.30 from Orange Tree pub in Highfield Road and follows the New River via the Town Park Wetlands site to end in Enfield Town. Shorter option in both morning and afternoon. Details: 020 8366 2242 or 07948 204 025. Leader: Dave Cockle
