About our walks

The Footpaths Group arranges a regular programme of walks throughout the year, in a variety of town and country locations, on weekdays and weekends, and with a selection lengths to suit all abilities. Details of the current programme are published in each quarterly newsletter and can be viewed on our calendar page.

Walk: Chilterns (amended)
Aug 26 all-day

Note: this is a change to the walk printed in Newsletter 214 (Summer 2019).  The change has been made necessary due to closure of Great Northern lines out of Kings Cross/Moorgate. Replacement walk is: Chilterns. Meet 10.25 Chorleywood Station. Either 09.26 Metropolitan Line train from King’s Cross St Pancras, or 09.57 Chiltern Railways Aylesbury train from London Marylebone Station.

About 7½ mile linear walk in attractive Chess Valley scenery ending at Rickmansworth Station. Hilly in places. Lunch stop in Sarratt Village. Bring lunch or pub food probably available. Contact on day of walk only: 07490 480 251 (no voicemails). Leader: Stuart Mills

Walk: Hampton Court and Bushy Park
Aug 31 all-day

Meet 10.42 Hampton Court Station (10.06 South Western Railway Hampton Court train from Waterloo mainline station or at 10.10 from Vauxhall. Check for engineering works).

About 6½ mile circular walk via River Thames, Hampton Court Parkland and Bushy Park. Lunch stop in Kingston with option to finish. Bring lunch or food available. Contact: 07900 286 254. Leader: Mike Cranstone

Walk: Grovelands Stroll
Sep 4 all-day

For tea/coffee suggest meet 10.00 onwards in any of the Winchmore Hill Green cafes. If not, be at Winchmore Hill Station by 11.00. About 2 mile gentle paced linear walk through Grovelands Park with comments on the landscape and geology. Contact on day of walk only: 07984 813 636. Leader: Norman Coles

Heritage Walk: Royal Small Arms Factory

Walk led by Ray Tuthill, President of the Royal Small Arms Factory (RSAF) Apprentices Association, and Patrick Grey, Heritage Manager of the RSAF Trust.  A tour of the site with access to areas not normally open to the public.

Walk: Lea Valley
Sep 8 all-day

Meet 10.22 St Margaret’s Station (09.55 Greater Anglia Hertford East train from Tottenham Hale, also stops at 10.02 Brimsdown, 10.05 Enfield Lock and 10 10 Cheshunt). Note: No London Overground trains on Enfield Town/Southbury Loop lines until later. Replacement buses from Southbury Station at 09.03 and 09.33 scheduled to arrive Cheshunt at 09.30 and 10.00.

10½ mile circular walk via Hertfordshire Way, Amwell Nature Reserve, New River and River Lea. 6½ miles in morning over undulating countryside with good views. Lunch stop at “The George IV” pub in Great Amwell. Food available or picnic in churchyard. In afternoon options to soon end near St Margaret’s or after about 2 miles at Rye House Station.
