An alternative petition to the one set up by the Opposition Group has been started by the Over 50s Forum. Their petition is submitted by Enfield Over 50s Forum on behalf of older people, but who also speak for the young, those with disabilities, mums, dads and carers and all those for whom libraries are an essential community lifeline.
They consider that the proposal to close eight local libraries are discriminatory in respect of these protected groups because it will have a disproportionately negative effect on them.
Your can find the full details of the equalities argument put forward by the Over 50s Forum on the petition page.
