Library closures are on the Council menu

After resisting library closures for many years when other local authorities were busy with them, LBE now looks set to follow the trend. The Council have published a draft Strategy for the Library Service which sets out proposals to close eight libraries: Bullsmoor, Enfield Highway, Enfield Island Village, Bowes Road, Southgate, Winchmore Hill, Oakwood and John Jackson (Bush Hill Park). Additionally the proposals include formally declassifying Angel Raynham as a public library.

The Council say that those being recommended for closure are the least used and that the Angel Raynham library, being in a school, is not accessible by the public.

The Council have now started a twelve-week consultation which you may wish to contribute to. Closing date is Thursday 14th November 2024.

Petition

The opposition group with the Council have also launched a petition aimed at saving the libraries marked for closure.
