Whitewebbs Judicial Review concludes: now we wait

Enfield Council and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club have withdrawn their challenge to the award of “cost capping” which was a threat to the those campaigning for a Judicial Review. They have now agreed terms equivalent to those of the original cost capping award.

This has allowed the Judicial Review to continue which was heard this week on the 6th — 8th February. The judge has now retired to consider the evidence and a ruling is expected in late March.

In another twist, The London Borough of Enfield is no longer arguing that the park is not public trust land. The campaign has had a strong suspicion of this since the outset. Finally the Council has admitted that it holds Whitewebbs on public trust.

Sean Wilkinson, who has lead the campaign said “I cannot praise too highly the preparatory work done by the legal team. There was a vast amount of work involved. This included the finding of vital documents at the London Metropolitan Archives just a few days before the case started. Hence the concession about trust land status. Our barrister’s summation on the last day was a tour de force.”
