At the Council meeting on Wednesday 12th October the ruling group accepted the terms of the successful petition and agreed to hold a debate on the Local Plan when new proposals were ready.
A separate proposal by the opposition Groups, to form a cross-party group to work on the Local Plan, was also accepted.
The Enfield Society welcome these developments which appear to show a small amount of contrition on the part of the ruling Group and an acknowledgement that the matter has not been handled well to date.
The expected timetable for the publication of the final proposals is now very uncertain, as we had expected the plans to be published some months ago. The Society takes the view that this is a positive sign that the Council is considering more carefully the riskier elements contained in the 2021 draft.
