New River Loop: low water level—update

The latest update from LBE’s watercourses engineers:

We are disappointed to see that the levels are not recovering. We have had a pump in place for the working day all this week (as well as Friday last week).

I am hoping for a date of work to be carried out on the replacement of the permanent backup pump at Southbury Road from the contractor as the lead-in time is approaching. I hope to have an update on that next week.

Since the rectifying of the issue with the Thames Water pump we are not confident that it has been pumping continuously as the levels of the New River itself have been variable for the past couple of weeks. This has not affected the ability of the emergency pump to function as it works at a lower level.

We will take steps to investigate why the pumping of water at the moment is appearing to have no positive impact.
