Does anyone know what the rods fixed to the front of the building are for? They look like door handles! Were they perhaps for fixing a big banner across the front of the cinema?

The poles up both sides of the building were strung across with wires and the Stage manager, Alf Welsh, used ladders to climb up and hook the letters onto the wires spelling out the latest film being shown. My father-in-law, Len Hyde, was apprenticed from the age of 16-17 under the head Arthur Hewlett.
