The Rose and Crown is always associated with the infamous highwayman Dick Turpin as the public house was owned by a Mr Nott who was Mr Turpin's grandfather. The area was not part of Enfield itself at that time but was a hamlet known as Bridge Street. The road just over the bridge to the right is known as Bull Beggars Hollow and is the entrance to Whitewebbs Park, Whitewebbs Golf Club and also Whitewebbs House, which is also part of Enfield's history as it was there that Guido Fawkes hatched the gunpowder plot to blow up the houses of parliament.
