My first home was 6 Palace Mansions, the flat at the top left of the building. It was a three-bed unit. The kitchen had a small balcony (at the back of the property) that looked out over the gas company's yard. The Palace Cafe was run by Reg; my mother was a cleaner at the Cafe, as well as a cleaner for the solicitor that rented the ground-floor unit of Palace Mansions.
