The hours were marked by a nursery rhyme, I think "Girls & Boys Come Out to Play". Would this have been a carillon or an amplified recording? The clock was silenced along with all church bells in 1939 on the outbreak of war. I do not believe they had been restarted when I left the district in 1951.
