St Andrew's parish hall
At the corner of Cecil Road and Sydney Road. Built in 1864 as the first permanent church of the Wesleyan Methodists and used by them until they moved in 1890 to their new stone-faced church by the New River at the end of the town. The original church ws built on a plot of land given by a Wesleyan - a grocer named Henry Cave - who had a shop at the corner of Sydney Road (a site occupied by a bank in 1980). He also subscribed to the building of the church. In the shop next to his was John Tuff, a chemist (an apothecary) and friend of Charles Lamb. When the Wesleyans moved, the church was sold to the National Schools for £1000. It was later sold by them to St Andrew's Church, who used it, together with the outbuildings at the rear, as a parish hall for sunday schools until they moved to their new premises and school in Churchbury Lane. It was then sold to the Borough Council and demolished by them in 1979 to make an extension to the car park.
