Cecil Road houses
View from the east, taken from the corner of Raleigh Road. On the extreme right is the exit from the borough car park, once Allen Fairhead's builder's yard. Cecil Road at one time extended from London Road up to the wall of the Town Park; beyond, there was the estate of Chase Side House. The newer houses in Cecil Road were not built until after the Council bought the estate in 1901-02 and Cecil Road was extended and the Town Park formed as Enfield's first park. Chase Side House stood approximately on the site of the library. For many years the drive to the house from Church Street was discernible across the grass of the library green.
