The Town. Market House.
Built in 1904 to replace the dilapidated market cross. An octagonal structure supported by eight columns of teak raised by public subscription from a design by the late Mr Sidney W. Cranfield. The roof is covered with hand-made tiles and terminated in a copper dome. Upon the cornice beneath the roof is inscribed [i]"This Market House was erected by subscription to commemorate the coronation of Kind Edward VII. Dei. Gra. Omn. Rex Fid. Def. Ind. Imp."[/i] It is somewhat similar in style to the Old Market House demolished in 1826. - [i]History of the Enfield Parochial Charity / Robert H. Dugdale Sykes, 1988, page 14.[/i]
