Grovelands Priory Hospital
The Bourne. 1797. One of only two Grade I listed buildings inthe borough, Grovelands House has been described as the finest neoclassical villa of its kind in the London area. Built as Southgate Grove for Walker Gray, a brandy merchant, it was designed by John Nash in partnership with Humphry Repton, who laid out the grounds.
The house was used as a hospital in the First World War, then as a convalescent home from 1921. It was closed in 1977 and left derelict until sold to the Priory Hospital Group in 1985, when an award winning restoration with sympathetic rear extension was carried out. - [i][Treasures of Enfield][/i]
