Note: this is a change to the walk printed in Newsletter 214 (Summer 2019).  The change has been made necessary due to closure of Great Northern lines out of Kings Cross/Moorgate. Replacement walk is: Chilterns. Meet 10.25 Chorleywood Station. Either 09.26 Metropolitan Line train from King’s Cross St Pancras, or 09.57 Chiltern Railways Aylesbury train from London Marylebone Station.

Walk: Hampton Court and Bushy Park

Meet 10.42 Hampton Court Station (10.06 South Western Railway Hampton Court train from Waterloo mainline station or at 10.10 from Vauxhall. Check for engineering works).

Walk: Grovelands Stroll

For tea/coffee suggest meet 10.00 onwards in any of the Winchmore Hill Green cafes. If not, be at Winchmore Hill Station by 11.00. Walk: Lea Valley

Meet 10.22 St Margaret’s Station (09.55 Greater Anglia Hertford East train from Tottenham Hale, also stops at 10.02 Brimsdown, 10.05 Enfield Lock and 10 10 Cheshunt). Note: No London Overground trains on Enfield Town/Southbury Loop lines until later. Replacement buses from Southbury Station at 09.03 and 09.33 scheduled to arrive Cheshunt at 09.30 and 10.00.

10½ mile circular walk via Hertfordshire Way, Amwell Nature Reserve, New River and River Lea. 6½ miles in morning over undulating countryside with good views. Lunch stop at “The George IV” pub in Great Amwell. Food available or picnic in churchyard. In afternoon options to soon end near St Margaret’s or after about 2 miles at Rye House Station. Walk: Visit to William Morris Gallery and Walthamstow Wetlands

Meet 10.30 Walthamstow Central Station (near Victoria Line foyer). After a walk of about 1 mile the group will reach the gallery in Lloyd Park, Forest Road, Walthamstow, for an opportunity to view exhibits and use the tea room. Then on to the Wetlands visitor centre for a lunch break. Food available or bring lunch. Afterwards a walk around the Wetlands ending at Tottenham Hale Station.

Walk: “From darkest Soho to a Rose Garden”

Meet 10.30 in the ticket machine concourse of Leicester Square Station (Piccadilly/Northern Lines).

About 5 mile linear walk through constantly changing scenes with an interesting mix of squares, gardens, architecture, statues etc before the contrast of Regent’s Park to end at Great Portland Street Station. Many shorter options. Lunch stop near Oxford Street. Bring lunch or food available. Leader: Ian Reynolds

Walk: Mimram Valley and village greens

Meet 10.30 Welwyn North Station ticket office (10.00 Thameslink Cambridge North train from Finsbury Park mainline station or at 10.13 from Potters Bar Station).

About 7 to 8 mile circular walk with attractive views, woods, village greens and river valley scenes. Hilly in places. No practical shorter option. Lunch stop at Tewin. Bring lunch or pub food/community shop tea room. Leader: Mick Spinks

Walk: Historic Parklands

Meet 10.15 at entrance to Hertford North Station (09.47 train from Enfield Chase).

About 8 mile circular walk via field paths and tracks with lunch stop in Hertford Town centre. Morning walk includes part of the Grade II* listed Panshanger Estate, whilst in the afternoon we use new rights of way in the Grade II listed Balls Park Estate with outstanding parkland trees and views of the Grade I listed 1640’s mansion. Walk: Enfield’s Countryside

Depart 10.20 Crews Hill Station (09.59 train from Enfield Chase).

In morning about 5 mile linear walk via field paths and tracks, with option to leave when route crosses 313 bus route on The Ridgeway, and through part of Trent Park before lunch break near Cockfosters Station. Bring lunch or food available.

Afternoon linear walk of 2½ to 3 miles starts at 14.30 from Cockfosters Station and is through other areas of Trent Park to finish on the Enfield Road for 121 and 307 buses. Leader: Mick Spinks

Walk: Watling Chase Timberland Trail

Meet 10.12 Elstree & Borehamwood Station (09.48 Thameslink St Albans train from St Pancras International mainline station platform B). Also possible to travel to start by 307 bus to Barnet, changing onto 107 bus, but this has a total journey from Enfield Town of at least 1 hour 20 mins.

About 7 mile linear walk on field paths and tracks via farmland and woods with some excellent long distance views. Option to end after about 4 miles from lunch stop at Shenley Park café (with bus to London Colney). Bring lunch or food available.
