Fireman's funeral
|
Fire engine with wording "Enfield U.D.C. / Ponders End" appears to have a coffin on top, covered with a union flag and flowers. Firemen in background with brass Roman helmets. A postcard, with notes on back reading "Possibly members of Coats(?) family of 84 Nags Head Road, or, Chief Officer Richard Walter, Ponders End Fire Brigade, 1880-1922". It is possibly the funeral in August 1932 of Capt. Edwin T. Roberts of the Ponders End brigade. Another photograph of this event is in History of Enfield vol.3, p.170.
