St Andrew's Junior School
At corner of Cecil Road and Sydney Road, photographed from Cecil Road from the south-west. The lower level and playing field were reputed to be on the site of an old gravel pit. One explanation was that many years ago, St Andrew's Church bought the vacant corner site and, not being ready to build, leased it to Allan Fairheads, the builders, who had an office and works on the opposite side of Sydney Road. When St Andrew's were ready to build, they took over the site, only to find a large hole where Fairheads had excavated the gravel. The school was therefor designed to make use of the hole.
